Trade Show Exhibit Shipping
Trade Shows and Exhibits are an important part of doing business in many industries. A trade show affords a company the opportunity to display wares, new products and technology and to talk to customers in a highly charged atmosphere. In some industries, these are buying shows where orders are taken for seasonal or stocked merchandise.
Trade Show and Exhibit shipping involves a lot more than a table-top booth that can be packed away and loaded into an SUV or car trunk. The exhibits at major shows, of which there are many all over the country, are often very large and elaborate affairs. They are packed in protective specialized containers and to move them requires large transport vehicles such as tractor-trailers with air-ride suspensions. These containers are fork-lift-friendly for ease of movement from the trailer to the exhibit floor and return.
Many exhibits are on a regular circuit of dozens of shows per year. That involves being moved from one show directly to another, sometimes with a short storage time along the route. Specialists coordinate all of these moves, providing the transportation, storage, set up and tear down at the exhibit halls. They can even arrange for the decorating of the booth area at the site.
The shippers' vehicles used for these types of shipping are often dedicated expressly to that effort. The trailers are flat-floored and have many tie-offs so the load can be affixed and stabilized for transport. They are often equipped with air-ride suspensions so fragile components, like electronics, will have less exposure to damage in transit. The fragility and value of some exhibits require specialized carrier insurance coverage.
The efficiency of trade show operations companies is very good. In just a few hours an empty exhibit hall becomes a brightly lit, booth-filled show with a highly charged commercial atmosphere. People fill the hall and the staffs manning the booths are kept busy answering questions and handing out brochures and technical materials.
